City Projects to Begin This Spring and Summer

Projects Manager David Hord has released information on projects that will be going on in Maysville over the coming months.

RECREATION PARK WALKING AND FITNESS TRAIL:
The recreation park walking trail project is to be bid and hopefully begin construction in the late spring and summer. 

RIVER PARK AND MARINA:
Several projects are planned to help with the campground area including upgraded sewer, fiber, electric, water and parking as well as widening the road in and out where applicable.

RIVER FRONT PROJECTS:
Several projects related to the river front  are being worked on that affect boating traffic, docking, fueling. The FLAP Grant was approved and work will begin on engineered plans and environmental work. Projects management is working with several entities on this project. They will be sending out RFQs to prospective engineering firms to engage in the design work of the riverfront. There will be meetings this month on selections this month of April.

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB WALKING TRAIL:
T & K Paving was awarded the bid for the project, which will begin as the weather permits. There has been an onsite meeting and work should begin on some aspects of the project in the months of April and May.

LIBRARY STREAM RESTORATION:
Some plan work on the stream restoration and selection of an engineer is being done as well as preliminary work, a narrative for the project, and a letter of intent. The City will be applying for 319 Funding for the Green Sink construction. The City has been awarded a grant for the design and engineering. It has been funded for the project and will begin the RFQ process for engineering and design firms tentatively in April and May.

TRAIN DEPOT:
The sale is now complete on the train depot property to the City of Maysville. Amtrak will begin working on the loading platform, canopy, and ADA accessibility work soon. Amtrak will be doing this work as part of the agreed contract.            

TAP GRANT SIDEWALKS:
The beginning phase of the TAP Grant sidewalk project that will extend from West Second Street to Main Street including all of East Second Street is in the works. An RFQ will be issued as soon as the City receives the official go ahead from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Meetings on this project will begin in April.

HINTON DRIVE DRAINAGE:
Work is projected to start on Hinton Drive to improve the drainage on the south end of the subdivision. Work should begin this spring weather permitting. 

PAVING CONTRACT:
The paving contract is complete and the bid was awarded to T&K Paving. Work will begin around the end of April. Areas of patching were done over the winter months where potholes and utility cuts were causing a problem. Once the asphalt plant opens, work will begin on permanent patching.

STREET MILLING:
Milling will be done on

  • 6th Street from Bank Street to the end,
  • Bank Street from 6th Street to the bottom of the hill,
  • East 6th Street from Buckner Street to Clark Street,
  • Alley between Florence and Buckner,
  • Arrington Avenue from dead end to newer paving,
  • Rogers Road from lower road to entire road,
  • Comprehend Alley from Forest Avenue to East 3rd Street,
  • Alley between Lexington Street and Poplar Alley from Forest Avenue to East 3rd Street,
  • Bruce Alley from Forest Avenue to Reynolds Drive,
  • Alley between Poplar and Lexington Street from Hall Alley to Morrison Alley,
  • Superior Drive from beginning to turn around,
  • Winton Woods Drive from newer paving to cul-de-sac,
  • Moody Drive from Days Inn to US 68,
  • Terra Haute Road,
  • Navaho Drive from cul-de-sac to newer pavement,
  • Martha Anne Drive from Chrissie Lane to dead end.

WEST THIRD STREET:
We will be doing some repairs in various locations on West Third Street retaining walls. Estimates have been received and contractor chosen. Work will begin in a couple of areas as the weather permits. We should begin this project in the month of April

ASPHALT PATCHING:
Projects has compiled a list of patching and repair areas and work has started in several locations. 

VALLEY VIEW:
Columbia Gas has informed the City that they will be working in the Valley View area in 2024. A definite start date has not been given. The City will again be assisting with the patching and paving of streets. 

FLOODWALL:
Various areas of the floodwall where spalling of the concrete has occurred are being repaired. Work will continue over the coming months. Gate closures and pump houses are also being worked on. The floodwall has received the annual inspection report and some of the items that need to be addressed are and will continue to be worked on throughout the spring and summer months. The 5-year inspection will be the first week of June.

FLOODWALL PUMP STATIONS:
Projects management is working on securing pricing for these pump stations to replace and or repair pumps and having meetings with Allied Equipment about the stations. The full report is complete and projects will be reviewing the findings. They will concentrate first on Limestone Creek and Wall Street. Projects is also working on all pump stations to update the oiling and greasing units to properly maintain pumps and fittings.
